Creamy Smooth Caramel

2 cups sugar
1 can evaporated milk
1/4 lb butter
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup nuts (opt)
1/2 tsp vanilla


Combine all but nuts and vanilla in heavy pan.
Boil on medium high heat stirring constantly until firm ball stage. 
Add nuts nuts and vanilla.
Pour into a buttered 9*9 pan 
Let stand until cool. 
cut and wrap in waxed paper.
